Society for
Education in Anaesthesia, UK
RESEARCH & TRAVEL GRANT
There is no limit to the number of grants,
but SEA UK aims to award both travel and research grants if quality of
applications are acceptable. Grants are up to £1000 in total per year, £500
maximum for any individual.
Application is by completing the
appropriate form (available on the SEA UK website). This will be anonymised and
considered by the Scientific Subcommittee.
Members:
Dave Murray (chair) Jo Kerr
Ronnie Glavin Harry Walmsley
·
Deadline for
submission: 14th January yearly, with successful recipients
announced at the spring Annual Meeting (usually March).
·
Recipients of
grants must present a paper/poster/report at the SEA UK annual meeting (a
bursary for costs may be available depending on circumstances).
·
Non-members
may apply but would be expected to become a member of SEA UK.
Research
Grant
Should
be in a field relevant to education in anaesthesia, critical care or pain. May
also be for any research of an educational nature, where the applicant can
demonstrate that performance of that research will benefit education in
anaesthesia, critical care or pain (this is intended to allow applicants
performing educational research as part of higher degrees in education to be
eligible).
Research
projects must have COREC approval, or confirmation from LREC chair that ethics
approval is not required.
The grant:
·
May not be
used to pay salary, but may be used to purchase service of a third party eg to
carry out interviews, or secretarial support for transcription of interview
material.
·
May be used
to purchase items of equipment. In this case the equipment will remain the
property of SEA UK and be considered to be on loan. This will allow such
equipment to be used by other researchers as appropriate.
·
Cannot be
used to fund registration fees for higher degrees.
Travel
Grant
May
be used to fund presenting educational research/poster at another meeting. This
may be of an Educational Specialist Society (eg AMEE or ASME) or Clinical
Specialist Society in the UK or abroad. Must receive confirmation of acceptance
by organisers of proposed meeting. The Grant is not to enable attendance at SEA
UK meetings in isolation.
May
be awarded to allow the applicant to undertake a visit that would, in the
committees view, enable the applicant to gain exceptional experience of an
educational nature over and above what is normally available. The applicant should submit a proposal for the trip that
demonstrates that such a visit will benefit themselves/ their particular
hospital/ education nationally as appropriate. An estimate of costs is required
beforehand.
