History

The Society for Education in Anaesthesia (UK) was founded in 1999 by Dr David Greaves, Consultant Anaesthetist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. It followed the Calman re-organisation of registrar training and the development of Schools of Anaesthesia. After a meeting in Newcastle in 1997, "Teaching for Quality", it was very obvious we were all in the same boat, and we needed co-ordinated bailing! As with SEA in the USA, SEA(UK) aimed to help fulfil the unmet needs of anaesthesia educators who were interested in furthering their knowledge and skills in the many areas of medical education.

SEA (UK) had it's inaugural meeting in Newcastle, at the Assembly Rooms, on the 14th April 2000. It started with an impressive 161 paid up members. It applied for charitable status later that year, and further meetings and workshops followed, in Middlesbrough, Eastbourne, London and Newcastle. Because of it's membership profile, the society has close links with the College, with many College Tutors, Regional Advisors and Council members.

It is certain that the Society will continue to support the educational endevours of anaesthetists in the UK. Please let us know what you want from your society.
